National Medical Research Centre for Oncology (NMRCO) is one of Russia's leading cancer centers providing consultations, examination and treatment to over 26 million citizens in 15 regions of the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts, as well as to people in other Russian regions.

The foundation of a cancer institute in Rostov-on-Don in 1931 set the stage for the development of cancer care in the Rostov Region and in the south of the country. Today NMRCO provides organizational and methodological guidance to cancer hospitals in the south of Russia.

In recent years, the Center has undergone a large-scale modernization. Its armamentarium has been renovated; new departments and clinical, research and experimental laboratories have been opened, with advanced technologies and unique surgeries introduced. Highly qualified specialists at the Consulting and Diagnostic Department receive more than 130 thousand patients a year. Modern medical equipment is used for diagnosis and treatment.

The clinical base of the Center includes 744 beds. More than 20 000 patients receive treatment annually; high-tech medical care is provided to 8 000 patients, and specific subspecialty care is provided to 13 000 patients. The Center has 20 operating rooms, and more than 200 surgeries are performed every week.

National Medical Research Centre for Oncology comprises 21 clinical and 10 diagnostic departments, as well as 5 research and experimental laboratories. A health resort Rus located in Zheleznovodsk, Stavropol Krai, became an affiliated branch of NMRCO in 2017.

The medical staff of the center consists of 129 candidates of Sciences (PhD), 47 doctors of Sciences (DSc), 9 associate professors, 29 professors, 1 professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 2 academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 21 Honored Doctors of the Russian Federation, 4 Honored Health Workers of the Russian Federation. Among our specialists there is also an Honored Economist of the Russian Federation and 2 Honored Scientists of the Russian Federation.

NMRCO actively promotes science. Our main goals are development and improvement of new technologies of precision medicine to provide the patient with tailored therapy and disease monitoring. This significantly improves the quality of cancer care for patients in the South of Russia, and reduces cancer incidence, mortality and related disability.

The state-of-the-art technologies and methods of surgical treatment are applied in the operating rooms with modern equipment. Surgeons perform neuro-oncological interventions with neuronavigation and endoscopic equipment, videoendoscopic surgeries for tumors of the chest, abdominal cavity and retroperitoneal space, and joint arthroplasty. Intraluminal endoscopic microsurgeries with argon plasma coagulation, fluorescence diagnostics, photodynamic therapy and stenting are performed, as well as extensive and combined surgeries on the liver, pancreas and pelvic organs with a reconstructive plastic component.

NMRCO provides a full range of cancer drug treatments, including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and hormone therapy. Administration of chemotherapy agents is personalized, based on the results of molecular genetic tests performed at our morphological center. Up to 3 000 patients receive radiation treatment annually. Modern radiotherapy equipment in the Center allows high-precision irradiation with maximum protection for normal tissues.

National Medical Research Centre for Oncology delivers high-tech medical care to children and adolescents with benign tumors and cancers in accordance with global standards.

The Department of Personnel Training and Retraining offers a medical residency program in oncology and a fellowship program in Oncology, Radiation Therapy. The Department organizes training courses, including Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses. NMRCO hosts the Department of Oncology of Rostov State Medical University. A Methodological Accreditation and Simulation Center at NMRCO provides primary specialized accreditation in oncology.

NMRCO successfully integrates into the world medical community. Our specialists actively participate in international conferences and receive training in the leading cancer centers in Russia and abroad.
