Oleg Kit was born on August 31, 1970; he graduated from the Medical Faculty of the Rostov State Medical Institute in 1993, received clinical internship training in general oncology and worked as a surgeon in Central District Hospital of Oktyabrsky district, Rostov region till 1995. Then he continued his professional education at the residency of Rostov Research Institute of Oncology and worked as a surgeon at the Thoracoabdominal Department of RRIO since 1997. In 2002, he successfully defended his PhD thesis “Anti-reflux esophago-jejuno anastomosis in stomach cancer surgery”. In 2004, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medical Science “Modern approaches to palliative treatment for advanced stomach cancer”. He received the title of Professor and was appointed Deputy Director for Science in Rostov Research Institute of Oncology in 2005. He became the Director of the Institute in 2010. In 2020, the Institute was given a new status and a new name – National Medical Research Centre for Oncology (NMRCO).
Professor Kit was a consultant for 14 doctoral dissertations and 21 PhD theses; he is the author of more than 1750 research papers, including 205 patents, 16 monographs and 10 scientific and methodological guides. Oleg Kit has been a Professor at the Department of Surgical Diseases of the Rostov State Medical University since 2014 and the Head of the Department of Oncology at the University since 2015.
During the years of his clinical practice, Oleg Kit perfectly mastered the technique of surgical operations in abdominal cancer surgery, including extended and combined resections with the major vessel plasty. In his oncological and surgical practice Professor Kit actively uses all up-to-date technologies allowing performing high complexity surgeries in a professional way with maximum safety for patients.
Oleg Kit is a member of the Editorial Councils of Russian Journal of Oncology, Problems in Oncology, P.A. Herzen Journal of Oncology, Creative Surgery and Oncology, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Immunopathology, Oncology Bulletin of the Volga region, and Eurasian Journal of Oncology. Besides, Oleg Kit is the chief editor of NMRCO’s South Russian Journal of Cancer.
Being a full member of European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) and Association of Oncologists of Russia, Professor Kit has brought experience of the world’s leading clinics to the Center.
By Presidential Decree 481 of 20.09.2016 “On awarding state awards of the Russian Federation”, Oleg Kit was awarded the Medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" of the II degree for his contribution to health care and medical research and for many years of conscientious work. In October 2016, Oleg Kit won the State Prize of the Russian Federation in science and technology and was awarded the title of Laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation in science and technology for the development and implementation of an interdisciplinary strategy in the treatment of colorectal cancer. On October 28, 2016 Oleg Kit was elected as a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, speciality “oncosurgery”. Professor Kit was awarded the Medal “For Merit to the National Health Care” in April 2017, and the Medal named after N.N. Trapeznikov "For contribution to the cancer care development" and the Certificate of Merit of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2020.
On October 28, 2016 Oleg Kit was elected as a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), speciality “Oncosurgery”. On June 2, 2022 Oleg Kit was elected an Academician of the RAS (Department of Medical Sciences, specialty “Oncology”) on the results of a secret ballot by full RAS members.
Today, Oleg Kit directs research in various spheres of clinical and fundamental oncology.
